AMP Structures are incredibly proud to present an extension scheme involving a 55% reduction in #embodiedcarbon.
Architecture by the fantastic Wellspace Architects, the scheme makes use of timber structure as much as possible, reclaimed bricks, reduced footings and cement replacement.
The client, a lecturer of civil engineering at the mighty University of Birmingham (Up the Brum!), was very keen to minimise their carbon footprint. With courageous design decisions (just ask anyone who has tried to source lots of reclaimed bricks!) they have achieved just that.
The fantastic ECC tool released by The Institution of Structural Engineers even allows you to compare this saving to give it some context:
– 9x flight to New York!
– 4x average personal annual consumption of meat/diary!
– 2x average annual family car usage!
The scheme is therefore given a ‘B’ ranking, which for an extension is quite remarkable! Top work all round.
