About
This imposing Grade-II listed neoclassical building in Bloomsbury is the flagship of Labs Group carefully curated selection of work spaces.
Previously renovated by Alsop Architects between 1999 and 2003, this sensitive restoration project was a labour of love for all involved. This redevelopment has brought the building into the 21st Century whilst restoring and reinvogarating its original 1920s splendour.
Much of the structural design focused on the restoration and repair of the superstructure, however the real challenge was in the entrance square. A steel space-frame was installed as part of the previous renovations in order to support a now dated glass floor. Through detailed structural analysis, and some limited strengthening, Harvey was able to justify the re-use the existing subframe for the much more brittle (and heavier) travertine floor that was to replace it.
